Juror Statement by Dan McManus
1st Place – Rick Catallozzi, Jr. “Waterfront Property” Rick’s photograph of a beatup RV (Caravan) on the beach pushes a lot of buttons for me. A well seen scene. Caravan placed perfectly in the rectangle, foreground poles echoed by the figures walking the shore line. But what connects me personally, what I’m feeling, which is personal (I am the one looking at the photo). My son Declan is 4 years old sitting in his car seat. Me queuing up the CD player Van the Man’s “Caravan”. For years after Declan would request “turn up the radio Dad”. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, watch Martin Scorsese’s movie “Last Waltz” and go to Van’s song. ~Dan McManus
Rick chose “Waterfront Property” to enter for this show because it touched him personally because of his love of the ocean, surfing & adventure. The photo was taken on Inch Beach in Ireland during a family vacation. It features a curious van that sparked his interest. “I was so drawn to this van. I felt it was very unique. It told a story visually. While my family was enjoying the beauty of Inch Beach, this old rusty van got my mind wondering. What was it’s story?” ~Rick
Rick Catallozzi Jr is honored to be awarded 1st place and looks forward to participating in future exhibitions. Congratulations to everyone that was part of this great exhibition. We would also like to thank Dan McManus and everyone at the Wickford Art Association.
